Scared:“Scared” is really about when I first started to deal with not wanting to travel places. Lovelace was doing a workshop in New York, and I didn’t want to get on the plane. I didn’t want to get on the plane for anything anymore. Once I quit touring, I was done traveling. I went on a couple of vacations and then I was done. When I first started dealing with it, it was so scary and felt like a creepy closet I was going into. I felt haunted. That was also a gnarly rock song that I totally revamped. It’s about all those things in the closet that were there.

First Time in My Life: Everybody kind of looked to me to fix stuff and take care of stuff, particularly some family members. I couldn’t do it anymore. I realized that if I was going to have kids, I might as well have my own instead of them.

Spinning Out:
That’s about Evelyn [Ostin]. I wrote about my experience after she died and of going to her house. The song is about looking at her stuff, and going around the house, and having memories. It’s also about her memorial. I put all of my feelings of “goodbye” about her into a song. The last time I saw her, I knew it would be the last time I ever saw her. She knew it too. If I close my eyes I can still see her.
